Ralph Lauren Off to Conquer Europe
America's great retailing skills are now becoming its main weapon in conquering even the lavishness and distinct kind of market Europe has. The busyness that is known for Europe and its people's culture of buying big and in bulk has reach a close competitive when American style of market has slowly sneaked in great cities of Europe like Paris in France. But what is that in France that the US marketers like that of Ralph Lauren has in purpose. Well, of course for this part we are hearing something that is common with Lauren, his business, and Paris – we'll possibly think it would be fashion.
Ralph Lauren, a famous fashion designer of corporate workwear uniforms born in the Bronx, New York had his own name already known all over the world and his business flourished even through the ends of the globe. He was born not that opulent but he is now one of the billionaires around the world according to Forbes with which he lands on the number 173rd on the list. Not to mention his huge number of luxury cars that range from a Ferrari to the most expensive Veyron speaks about how he has managed to be on top right now.
In a story from Newsweek, it said about Ralph Lauren's coming to Paris and how he able to managed to set the competition in the fashion capital.
"With the store, Lauren is finally bringing to Europe a message that he started with his flagships in Chicago and Tokyo: what he describes as the "world" of Ralph Lauren. Luxury fashion has been embracing this concept for the last decade—the Chanel and Hermès stores in Tokyo have cultural spaces that host concerts and movie screenings, Dolce & Gabbana and Armani have cafes in various shops; Armani even has a florist in his Milan Emporio. But Ralph is the first brand to do it on such a grand scale, and with such a focus on hospitality. In essence, he's taken the old-fashion department-store model—luxurious environment, posh dressing rooms, personalized service, fine dining—and adapted it to a single brand. And when you walk in the place, it feels like Lauren conducting a master class in merchandising: this, messieurs et mesdames, is how it should be done," read the report by Dana Thomas, Newsweek.
Ralph Lauren made it to Paris by opening his flagship store on the Left Bank in vast 23,000 square foot lot with a city mansion that dates back to 18th century. The store houses several RRL Western wear, workwear uniforms, and other apparels from the designer. The building also consists of a restaurant named according to the designer himself – Ralph's. The restaurant is a 128-seat that offers American cuisine.
This store he opened in Paris will eventually par with his several outlets in the United States and some in Tokyo, Japan. Currently, 18% of Lauren's profits from his line of clothes and accessories come from Europe while 17% of which are from Asia.
