Martial Arts Tai Chi Push Hands?
What's the difference between Tai Chi's Hard Form and Soft Form of Push Hands? How do both work? Details please.
I may not be experienced enough to answer, but.... I wasn't aware of a "hard form" and a "soft form".
Push Hands (also considered by many to be "sensing hands") isn't about "trying to push an opponent" off balance.
Push hands is about using a partner to learn "body wisdom". A mutual interaction where each partner gives and receives the chance to learn something about their own form and reactions in relationship to another. The point isn't to learn an efficient way to push another, but in learning how to move and deal with the incoming force. You each learn about how to relate to another exerting force toward you. Learning about your balance. Learning about body shifting to "yield" to that incoming energy. Learning how to "be like water".
However, there are many out there who see it as a contest. A chance to push someone around and stoke one's ego. So, the experience is more about exerting one's sense of power, not learning how to deal with what may be an overpowering incoming force.
Anyway.... That's my understanding of what Push Hands is about.
Train hard, be well.
