Studying Sai, Bo Staff, Tonfa, Sword and Nun-chaku, are there any books, DVDs or websites that teach the forms?
Trying to study on my own since I can't make it back to the dojo while I'm in school and I've been searching in vein for something that actually shows the original forms in full and the books I have only reference that they exist without actually showing what they are. Any information for a lowly green belt?
I'm able to do the basic movements, I just like to have the forms under my belt so I know what the traditional step orders and moves are just to get a routine down. I learned most of the forms for Taekwondo from DVDs and books and had my teacher (4th degree black belt) tweak me where I needed it. I know better than to take them for absolute value I just need something supplemental until I can get back into class this summer after my last paper, broject and two tests. Need something physical that also lets me explore my brain.
Quote: "Any information for a lowly green belt?" Yeah, train the things you trained so far. It should be plenty to keep you going for quite some time rather than try to learn something you have not been shown yet. At that rank (green belt) you should know that learning from videos will ensure that you will learn plenty of bad habits you will spend much longer trying to correct later than if you had learned all the forms from your teacher in the first place. Who is going to correct you if you learn from a video? Who is going to teach you the third dimension since videos are only two dimensional? I can spot a form learned from a video after only a few moves. It is that obvious.
