martial arts escapes
women: how to escape from an attacker armed with a knife or rod?

i found some escape technique videos on youtube but they seem impossible for someone without martial arts training or anything to do. can anyone give me some tips or links? thanks!!

1. Be ever vigilant
2. Keep an escape route identified, and be prepared to run away as the first defense
3. Avoid locations where you are vulnerable
4. If cornered, drop everything but a heavy book, practice using the book (one hand on top and bottom) to push off an attacker, and if necessary strike at the face and neck with a corner or edge
5. If more than one attacker, maneuver yourself to keep one of the attackers between you and the other attackers so that only one is dealt with at a time, do not stand still or allow them to get behind you if possible
6. Run away at the first possible time toward people, screaming if necessary

A kuboton is the simplest self-defense weapon. This can be any short stick (4-6 inches long, about ½ inch in diameter, plastic, metal, or wood) with a metal eye screw on which to attach a ring of keys, preferably with at least one inch of loose links between the screw and the ring of keys. And, it would probably not be classified as an illegal weapon in most jurisdictions.

This gives the effect of a small nunchku (fairly effective across the face and eyes), and can also be used in a hammer-fist fashion as well as jabbing.

The problem is that her reluctance to commit to self-defense may result in a half-assed resistance that does nothing but trigger a more violent attack. In some cases, no defense is better than anything less than an all-out no-holds-barred fight-to-the-death resistance. Some attackers only injure their victims to the extent necessary to gain control, and some will kill no matter what.
