I'm afraid of getting punched in an actual fist fight?

Okay, I am a black belt in [TKD] Tae-kwon-do. I'm a heavier kid. When, even slap boxing someone, I get afraid of getting slapped, or punched, or anything like that. And in fights, I think that this fear slows me down, and limits me from using my TKD in a fight. Now, all the years if sparring, I have never, once, experienced this. And, I know why. It's because you had gear that protected your body. I had no fear whatsoever. My question, is even though I'm a black belt in TKD, why do I seem to get scared of taking a punch in the face? And, how can I get over this fear immediately? Thanks..

You don't get over the fear of being hit quickly. It takes time, and proper training. It is alarming that you hold a black belt, yet still have this fear. That should not happen. Anyone that reaches black belt in any style should be past that stage. Don't get me wrong no one likes to get hit in the face. but still having a strong fear of that happening at a black belt level just should not happen. The reason you still fear that is because you lack confidence in your ability to keep it from happening. You can't just decide to be confident. Life does not work that way. Confidence is something that you gain slowly. As you get better at something, you recognize that improvement. As a result your confidence level goes up. As you continue to improve, you continue to gain confidence. In time when you become physically good, your confidence level is so high that you no longer fear that you will get hit in the face.

My concern here is the instruction you have received. I can't understand any instructor that would promote someone to black belt that fears being hit..... It does not do the student any good to have a black belt, if he can't use his training due to fear. Promoting someone that is not both physically ready and mentally, is disturbing. It is both stealing their money, and instilling false confidence in the student.
