Physics Momentum and Collision Promblems?
Joe ice skated with an average speed of 10.8 m/s. Suppose Joe crosses the finish line at her average speed and takes a huge bouquet of flowers handed to her by a fan. As a result, her speed drops to 10.01 m/s. If Joe's mass is 63.0 kg, what is the mass of the bouquet?
Please help me and please show work not just the answer! thank you
The momentum should not change once he is handed the flowers
His original momentum is
P=mv = 63.0 Kg x 10.8 m/s = 680.4 Kg m/s
With new velocity solve for new mass
m = P/v = 680.4 Kg m/s / 10.01 m/s = 67.97 Kg
Mass of flowers = Calculated mass - Joe's mass = 4.97 Kg or about 5 Kg
