What happens if you pull the handbrakes on high speed?!?
Well i was just wondering if i was ever on a highway and the car was stuck on cruise control or something and the foot brakes didn't work (very unlikely, but im just wondering)....what would happen if you suddenly pull on the hand brakes on such a high speed (70km/h+)??
(Note - assume the foot brakes don't work)
Would the car flip? Would it come to an immediate stop? Would it damage the car?
If the emergency brake used hydraulic pressure it would lock up the rear wheels and make for some hard controlling. Some systems use a block that sticks into slots in the rear rotors and these would probably be broken off during high speed activation. The best solution would be to take it out of gear and turn off the ignition. Just stepping on the brake pedal will disengage the cruise control, whether the brakes work or not.
