Pad Patella
Dog walking on the tops of his feet?

I have a pomeranian who was groomed today. When he stands up, and also when he walks, he walks on the top of one of his feet. He actually walks with his paw pads tucked under his foot and walks on the furry part.

He has a history of back problems and rotating patellas on his back legs, but I've never seen this before.

Does anyone have a clue as to what this could be?
Rest assured that Milo will be visiting his vet within the next 24 hours. He had been walking funny before the grooming, but he was dealing with a collapsed trachea. Poor Milo had to go last summer without being groomed because of other health problems and was hot all the time, and his fur was 3" long and very thick. It wasn't until he was groomed that I could see his gait, and now the vet can see it, too. With his existing back problems, this may be the way we can finally diagnose him and help him along with his problems. Thank you all so much for your concern and advice, and Milo thanks you too.

Dances With Woofs is correct. It's a sign of a neurologic problem that fits very well with her history of back problems. Please take her to your vet as soon as possible. It may not seem bad now, but it can get worse and even cause paralysis. Until you can get to the vet, keep her as confined as possible, preferably in a crate/carrier.

Please do NOT ignore this or assume it's related to having her nails cut as some others have mentioned. It's not related to her nails. Get her to your vet asap.

Thanks for looking at our Pad Patella information.
